Bowen Chen

Founding Engineer

Bowen Chen is the Founding Engineer at Modella AI, where he works as a core member on the research & development team. Previously, Bowen worked with Professor Faisal Mahmood at Harvard Medical School on developing state-of-the-art vision-language foundation models in computational pathology, where he co-led multiple cutting-edge projects, including: (1) MI-Zero, the first large-scale visual-language AI model that operates on whole slide images (CVPR 2023); (2) CONCH, a state-of-the-art visual-language foundation model for pathology (Nature Med 2024), (3) PathChat, a multimodal generative AI copilot for human pathology (Nature 2024), among others. Bowen received his BS in computer science and statistics from Harvard University.
